U.S. 27) and about a two hours' drive to the Gulf Coast (Tampa,
Clearwater, Naples) or the Atlantic Coast (West Palm Beach, Miami,

Lake Placid is a
quiet fishing community situated on the edge of the Everglades
National Preserve. Residents enjoy spectacular natural beauty with
27 pristine fresh water lakes for fishing, boating and swimming. The
city is known as the Caladium Capitol of the World for the brightly
colored plant that is native to the area. There are numerous golf
courses and tennis courts for exercise and fun. The "uptown" area
features a variety of shops, restaurants and culture including more
than 20 murals depicting the city’s history and heritage. The
world-famous Lake Placid Tower rises some 270 feet and offers a
40-mile view of the area’s lakes and a million acres of the most
